Education and outreach initiatives are key to the objectives of Keep Allen Beautiful (KAB). KAB produces an annual Education & Outreach Guide to highlight programs, presentations and field trips offered by the City of Allen and local partners.

OCTOBER Recycled Art Contest
This annual competition for Allen ISD students is held in conjunction with Allen Recycles Day. Top entries are selected by schools and displayed for judging at City Hall. See the list of 2014 winners.

FEBRUARY Kids Helping Kids Book Drive
This contest gives kids an opportunity to share their love of reading by donating books to children in Jamaica and Belize. Participants must register; winners receive a pizza party.

SPRING Reuse-a-Shoe Contest
Keep Allen Beautiful and The Shoe Bank host this contest every spring. Allen ISD schools (K-12) compete to donate the most new or gently-used shoes to the shoe bank. The school collecting the most pairs per student wins the grand prize.

The City of Allen also offers community collection sites at City Hall, Allen Public Library, Allen Senior Recreation Center, Joe Farmer Recreation Center and Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium.

APRIL Arbor Day Poster Contest
This contest challenges 4th and 5th grade students to design and create posters according to the theme of the annual Arbor Day Celebration. Keep Allen Beautiful judges the posters. Winners are recognized at an Allen City Council meeting. The first place winner receives recognition at his/her school and a tree planted in their honor.

YEAR-ROUND Advanced Scout Projects
Scouts interested in developing projects for their Eagle Project or Order of the Arrow service work may reference the Guidelines for Advanced Scout Projects. These guidelines will help them find city employees interested in supporting their projects. Keep Allen Beautiful Vice-Chair Mardy Brown is the current Scouting Liaison to KAB.
