Applications are being accepted through Feb. 25 for the Allen Citizens Fire Academy. Classes start March 7 and run every Thursday night from 7 to 9:30 p.m. for 10 weeks at the Ronald Gentry Training Center, 310 Century Parkway. The course includes two optional Saturday field activities. Classes are taught by fire fighters from throughout the department and cover topics such as emergency medical services, disaster preparedness, fire prevention and fire safety training, and use of a fire extinguisher and an automated external defibrillator (AED). Experiential learning includes operation of the Jaws of Life, extinguishing a live fire, and ride-outs on actual emergency calls.
