1. May I request a specific inspection time?

No. You cannot schedule a specific inspection time in advance, but you may contact your inspector the day of the inspection for an estimated time of arrival. The inspector's hours are Monday - Friday from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. Contact an Inspector

2. When are permit submittal fees due?

Permit fees are due at issuance with the exception of Environmental Health permits and Certificate of Occupancy applications. Payments for these permits are due at submittal.

3. What are the designated construction hours for the City of Allen?

Construction hours are 7 a.m. - 8 p.m., 7 days a week.

4. Which construction codes does the City of Allen follow?

The City of Allen is currently under the 2009 International Building Code, 2009 International Residential Code, 2009 International Fire Code, 2009 Fuel Gas Code, 2009 International Plumbing Code, 2009 International Mechanical Code, 2009 International Energy Conservation Code and the 2011 National Electrical Code. All submittals must reflect the current code additions. Ordinance No. 3013-5-11

5. Is a permit required to build a fence?

Yes. Permits are required to build brand new fences as well as additions. Fence Application

6. When does my City of Allen contractor registration expire?

All contractor registrations with the City of Allen Building Services Division expire a year from the day you register/renew. This change went into effect on December 1, 2012.

7. What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, check, money order and credit cards. For credit cards, we only accept MasterCard or Visa.

8. When are re-inspection ("red tag") fees due?

Re-inspection fees are due before the final inspection can be completed. To request the balance of fees owed, please contact our Permit Staff. Email Now

9. Do you require permits for garage sales?
