the facility
The
Allen Senior Recreation Center is a recreation center for
persons 50 years of age and older, including their spouses.
The center is operated by the Allen Parks and Recreation
Department and is currently located in a brand new facility
located at Cedar Drive and St. Mary Drive, just east of
the Historic Village project in Phase II of Allen Station
Park. Offering a variety of programs, trips and special
events, activities and classes are low-cost or absolutely
free. Membership to the center is just $5 a year for residents
and $24 a year for non-residents.

of operation
The
facility is open from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday
and Friday and from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
activities
and programs
The facility houses a state of the art fitness room, craft
room, game room, classrooms and a 6,000 square foot multi-purpose
room with hardwood floors. Our rooms are used for dancing,
yoga, tai chi, ceramics, painting, scrap booking and much
more.

If you like to
play cards, dominoes, line dance, socialize or just eat
lunch with friends, then the Allen Senior Recreation Center
is for you. The center also sponsors trips and hosts workshops
on financial and medical topics. All activities that include
lunch and transportation require a reservation by either
signing-up at the center or by calling 214-509-4820.

trips
All trips
require advance registration. Participants must sign up
in person and pay in full at the time of registration (No
phone reservations - No Exceptions). All trips are subject
to change due to circumstances beyond our control. All trips
require a minimum number of participants. If the minimum
number of participants are not signed up and paid within
10 days of the trip, the trip will be cancelled. No refunds
will be given unless the trip is cancelled by staff. NOTE:
Specific dates will be announced the month prior to the

The Allen Senior Recreation
Center publishes a free bi-monthly newsletter entitled "Senior
Views." Stop by the center or click below to get your

transportation
Transportation is available to and from the center so that
members may participate in daily activities. Participants
must be able to get in and out of the bus/van without assistance
from the driver and be an Allen resident. Membership papers
must be completed before service can be scheduled. Transportation
for evening programs is also offered for a $2 roundtrip
charge. For more information on this service, please contact

meals
The senior center's commercial size kitchen offers options
such as daily snack bar and weekly Wednesday meal special.
On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, the center offers
a grilled chicken salad. Every Wednesday a lunch special
is served. These meals are $3. Meals must be paid for by
10:45 a.m. each day. Meals are served between noon and 1
p.m. and are on a first come first serve basis.
health
care
A nurse from the Geriatric Wellness Center comes every other
month to check blood pressure, blood sugar and answer questions.
This is a free service. The center also schedules speakers
throughout the year on various health-related topics.
