| The
City Manager, appointed by the City Council, is the City's chief
administrative officer and is responsible for the daily activities
and services of the City. The City Manager's Office includes the
Assistant City Manager and the Public and
Media Relations Office.
City Manager
Peter H. Vargas joined the City in January 1999 after serving
nearly two years as the Executive Director of the City of Dallas’
Trinity River Corridor Project. In addition to his Dallas experience,
Vargas has more than 25 years of municipal management background
in Colorado and Texas. In 1978, he joined the City of Arvada,
near Denver, where he served as an Administrative Assistant, then
as Assistant to the City Manager. Five years later, he joined
the City of Englewood, Colorado, as Assistant City Manager and,
in February 1989, Vargas became City Manager of Laredo, Texas.
