General City Government Election Information
The City of Allen operates under a council-manager form of government. The Mayor and six Councilmembers are elected at-large. In 2001, Allen residents approved an amendment to the Allen City Charter that allowed for three-year staggered terms for the council. Terms for the City Council expire as follows:

Council Qualifications
According to the City of Allen Charter Article II, Section 2.02, a Council candidate must:
- be a qualified voter of the City of Allen;
- be a resident of the City of Allen for at least one year immediately preceding their election; and
- hold no other elected office or appointed public office or position of emolument, except as authorized by state law.
