Residential Solid Waste Collection

The City of Allen provides trash and recycling services through contract with Community Waste Disposal, Inc., (CWD). Allen residents are required to use City-provided trash and recycling services, which are initiated by signing up for water service with the City of Allen.

Setting up Trash/Recycling Service

If your new home does not have a trash or recycling poly cart, they can be ordered through the Utility Billing Division at the same time you establish water and sewer services by contacting the City of Allen Utility Billing Division at 214.509.4560.

  • Your trash and recycling carts will be delivered in 10 business days.
  • Trash and recycling poly carts stay with a home when and if a resident moves to a new address. Residents who remove poly carts when they move will be billed the replacement value of these items, which is $71.52 per cart.
  • Clearly label your carts with your address. It will help identify your cart, should it go missing. Carts are the property of Community Waste Disposal. There is a charge for replacements.

To order additional trash or recycling poly carts contact CWD directly at 972-392-9300 Option 2. The charge for an additional trash cart is $8.85 and $2.08 for an additional recycling cart. These will appear on your City of Allen monthly utility bill.

Collection Day

  • Each single family household is provided with a 95 gallon cart for trash and a 95 gallon cart for recyclables.
  • Trash pick up is once per week.
  • Recyclables are collected every-other-week.
  • Find your designated trash and recycling collection day - MAP & 2009 RECYCLE SCHEDULE

Service Guidelines

  • Place poly cart(s) curbside by 7 a.m. on your designated collection day. Trash will be collected by 7 p.m.
  • Poly carts must be two feet from the curb and any obstacle such as a parked vehicle, gas or electric meters, fences, cable boxes and other poly carts.
  • The front of the cart should face the street with the cart’s handle facing the residence.
  • All trash must fit inside the poly cart with the lid completely closed. Any trash left beside the poly cart will not be collected.
  • Trash must be bagged to prevent loose items from spilling.
  • An overloaded cart will result in non-collection

Television Disposal & Recycling Options

After the switch from analog to digital television technology, many people are purchasing new televisions rather than using digital converters.  The question of disposal of the old television is a dilemma - to recycle or not to recycle?  Due to the cost associated with recycling televisions, the City of Allen has opted to allow residents to choose whether to recycle or landfill their televisions.

RECYCLE option:  There are many recycling options available in the DFW area.  Most of these incur a cost.  Local television recyclers can be found with a simple web search using a phrase such as 'television recycling in DFW area.'  In the Allen area, one television recycler of which the City is aware is the local Best Buy.  Please contact Best Buy, located in the Village at Allen on Stacy Road, for more information. TCEQ offers more information on recycling televisions.

LANDFILL option 1:  Allen residents may choose to have the television collected during the once monthly residential bulky item collection.  These collected items will be landfilled.  Please call CWD at 972.392.9300 Option 2 to schedule a television (bulky) collection.

LANDFILL option 2:  A second landfill option is a do-it-yourself disposal at the Custer Road Transfer Station, 9901 Custer Road.  This location is 1.8 miles north of W. McDermott on Custer.  The Transfer Station is open Monday - Saturday from 8 am - 4:30 pm.  Residents must take a current Allen water utility bill and driver's license (addresses must match) to drop off televisions at no charge.

Missed Collection

  • Missed trash / recycling and bulk item collection should be reported to CWD.
  • To speak to a customer service representative, call CWD directly at 972-392-9300 Option 2 during normal business hours.
  • If you have more trash than the service the City offers, you can either deliver your trash to the Custer Road Transfer Station or contact CWD directly to arrange for a special collection, which incurs a charge.

Holiday Schedule

Regular service is suspended on each listed holiday. Service resumes the day after the holiday, resulting in each route being serviced a day later than normal, ending with Friday's route being picked up on Saturday.

Billing Information

All residential trash and recycling services are provided by Community Waste Disposal (CWD) and are billed through the City of Allen utility bill. Your service is activated through the utility billing division when you establish your water service. Allen residents are required to use City-provided trash and recycling services.
