Yard Trimmings Collection / Compost Program

The City of Allen offers service to residents for the collection of yard trimmings, which is picked up weekly on your designated trash day. Allen composts all yard waste for beneficial reuse since grass clippings and organic lawn materials are banned from the landfill. Free compost is available to residents at the City of Allen Jupiter Road Compost Site.

Collection Day & Service Guidelines

  • Place yard trimmings curbside by 7 a.m. on your designated trash collection day.
  • Include bagged grass clippings, bagged leaves, plant materials, and small cuttings.
  • Use biodegradable paper lawn bags that can be purchased at local grocery and home improvement stores.
  • No plastic bags will be accepted.
  • Tree and brush trimmings must be tied into 4’ x 2’ bundles secured with biodegradable string, twine or rope for collection.
  • Corrugated cardboard boxes need to be empty, flattened, stacked, and bound with string, twine or rope
  • Each bundle or bag must weigh less than 40 pounds.
  • Place within clear sight of your trash cart, no closer than two feet.
  • Yard trimmings do not include dirt, gravel, rock, concrete or sod.

Bulk Yard Trimmings Collection

  • Once a month service for residents having a large amount of loose brush (not to exceed 3 cubic yards) may call CWD at 972.392.9300 ext. 2.
  • Calls relating to this service must be received by noon on Tuesday for Wednesday collection.

Hours of Operation

Saturdays and Sundays, 8 am-5 pm
Site closed from Thanksgiving through Valentine's Day.

Service Guidelines

  • Each household is allowed to collect one cubic yard of compost per month from the facility on a first-come first-served basis.
  • Bring your own shovel and covered container.
  • This site is unattended and thus relies on the honor system.
  • Residents that see commercial vehicles taking compost are asked to report the vehicle license number to Donna Kliewer with the City of Allen at 214.509.4551.
  • This is not a drop off site for branches, yard waste, grass or organic materials. Leaving such material is considered illegal dumping. Dumpers will be prosecuted.
