The term "Homeland Security" was coined in response to the terrorist attacks on the United States of America on September 11, 2001. Because of these attacks, the fear that Americans are vulnerable to foreign and domestic terrorism grew. However, Americans have been the victims of terror attacks prior to September 11, including the Oklahoma City Bombing and the Bombing of the World Trade Center Tower One, in 1995.
Members of emergency management organizations, including those in the City of Allen, have been studying the potential for terrorist attacks on American soil and how to prepare and respond to such attacks for many years and we continue to do so, now under the title of Homeland Security.
