Automatic Home Sprinkler Systems

The Allen Fire Rescue Public Education Division is a member of the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) and in 2010, in addition to its year-long fire and life safety monthly campaigns, is dedicated to educating Allen residents on the benefits from properly installed home fire sprinkler systems.

From federal agencies to national safety organizations, such as NFPA, sprinklers are recommended as the most effective means to substantially reduce the home fire problem.  Home fire sprinklers can contain and may even extinguish a fire in less time than it would take the fire department to arrive on the scene. Ninety percent of fires are contained by the operation of just one sprinkler. Using only a small fraction of the water used by fire department hoses, and by limiting the pollutants generated by a fire, they also better serve the environment.

Fire sprinkler systems can also reduce the overall property damage created from a home fire. An uncontrolled fire requires ten times the water per minute from high pressure fire rescue hoses and causes greater fire destruction and smoke damage. The property loss in a sprinkled home fire is typically only a fraction of the loss in an unsprinkled home fire.
