Employee Development

The City of Allen supports and facilitates the ongoing development of our most prized asset – OUR EMPLOYEES.  This is accomplished through a number of programs to encourage life-long learning and to prepare employees for future career paths. Through the City of Allen’s programs and services, facilitate and support the city’s continuous journey as a learning organization. The Human Resources Department offers a variety of training programs and encourages employees to participate in their professional associations, and obtain certifications and a formal education.

New Employee Orientation

New Employee Orientation is provided to all new regular full time employees. This orientation introduces them to policies and procedures, programs, and expectations of the City of Allen. Orientation is held on a monthly basis and is a daylong session for all new city employees. After orientation, employees will have an excellent overview of the City of Allen programs, benefits, and a good understanding of the PRIDE values.

Training & Development

Training & Development through the City of Allen's programs, we encourage our employees to be lifelong learners by offering training programs and by encouraging employees to participate in their professional associations, certifications or formal education.

Regional Training Program

The City of Allen partners with the North Texas Municipal Alliance to provide cost-effective training to all employee levels. This initiative was designed to assist municipal employees in developing skills relevant to their current occupation or possible future occupations. Program offerings include compliance courses, as well as various series that prepare and assist employees to perform at a higher level.

Customer Service Training

In addition to a customer service series provided by NTMA, the City of Allen provides training in support of our PRIDE values.

Tuition Reimbursement

Tuition Reimbursement assists employees in broadening their knowledge of their current position or preparing them for possible assumption of new job responsibilities within the City of Allen. The City pays 100% of tuition (based on UTD in-state rates) up to 18 credit hours per year, as well as 50% of books (up to $200/semester) to eligible employees (regular full-time employees with at least six months service with the City prior to application approval).
