The Information Technology Department provides centralized information technology support to approximately 450 users working in 12 departments located in 15 municipal buildings. The IT Department maintains and operates the City wide network which includes multiple servers, workstations, printers, multiple software applications and voice transmission. Additionally, the IT Department provides, operates, and maintains a secure and stable technology infrastructure to support city services. Overall, the Information Technology Department provides desktop, network, application and systems management services for all City departments.
In August 2006, the City of Allen began implementation of a five year IT Strategic Plan. Over the years, the City has seen tremendous growth in the demands for technology and we felt it was time to take a step back to analyze our direction and ensure we are capitalizing on our current systems while moving the City forward.

The 5-Year Information Technology Strategic Plan for the City of Allen identifies ways to improve current applications and systems, expand services and provide a foundation for future developments. The Plan addresses how information technology will support the City's delivery of effective services to residents, officials and staff while maintaining an economical and effective information technology function.
