Summer Sounds Concerts

Dance on the lawn, clap your hands to the music or just sit back and relax on a blanket - it's a great way to spend a Monday evening! Join us for the annual free concert series Summer Sounds. Concerts happen every Monday from May 17 through June 21 starting at 7 p.m. at the Joe Farmer Recreation Center Amphitheatre, 1201 E. Bethany. Attend all the concerts or pick the type of music you like the best. Featured concerts include:


June 21 - Tejas Brothers

The results are in...thanks to the Tejas Brothers, the accordion is now "Cool"! This group features an original sound, brewed in Texas for the whole world to enjoy!  Part Honky-Tonk Country, part Roots-Rockin' Blues, and part Tasty Tex-Mex, musical boundaries are being broken, and cultures come together at every performance. The Tejas Brothers are masters at making the audience fall in love with them at each and every performance!

May 17 - The PitPops

The PitPops were born in October of 2000. The band members had something more than music in common; all members of the band had sons or daughters in the Lake Highlands High School marching band.  The PitPops now consist of a full rhythm section, percussion, brass section and vocalists, and plays a wide variety of popular hits from the 60s and 70s. Come enjoy rockin songs from groups such as Santana, Chicago and many more! 

May 24 - Bebe Le Strange

The HEART tribute band Allen has been waiting for has finally arrived! This group comprised of bassist Kirk Young, the powerful voice of Nona Ellison, the sweet harmonies and keyboard styling’s of Leigh Anne Bramlett, the dynamic duo of Chris Bradley and John Walker on guitars, plus the steady drumbeat of Dave Gilley pay tribute to the music of Ann and Nancy Wilson. Enjoy true HEART classics like Barracuda, Heartless and Dog and Butterfly.

May 31- Memorial Day Tribute Concert 

This week we will break away from the traditional Summer Sounds Concert Series for a Memorial Day Tribute Event that features Patriotic Music performed by the Allen Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphony Chorus.  Celebrate Memorial Day with an evening of activities designed to honor our Veterans and Servicemen and Women.  The event will conclude with a patriotic fireworks show! 

June 7 - Briefcase Blues

Briefcase Blues is a live musical show-band and revue based on the “Blues Brothers” characters originally created by Saturday Night Live comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi.  Founded in 1983 and still going strong, Briefcase Blues is backed by a hot 8-piece show band while the stars of the show J.W. Leggio (as Jake) and Lee Schwing (as Elwood) faithfully re-create the “Brothers” characters. Come experience the fun of “Joliet Jake” and his brother “Elwood” in true Belushi & Aykroyd style! 

June 14 - Professor D

Professor D is a 9 piece party/dance band that features horns, spectacular male and female vocalists and truly the most unique, high-energy, fun-filled show in the area!  Founded in 1989, this band has headlined the VIP New Year's Eve Party at the Golden Nugget, headlined the 2008 downtown Dallas BIG D NYE party in Victory Plaza as well as countless Cowboys, Mavericks and Stars games!  Come party it up with Professor D in the house!
