The guiding principles for the City of Allen’s development come from the Comprehensive Plan and the Allen Land Development Code.
The Comprehensive Plan defines the goals and policy statements on land use, transportation, housing, parks, community facilities, urban design, economic development, the environment, health and human services, and government services. The plan fits all these pieces together to create a cohesive community.
The Allen Land Development Code works with the Comprehensive Plan to promote the health, safety and general welfare of the community. It is designed to lessen street congestion, secure safety from fire, panic and other dangers, provide adequate light and air, to prevent land overcrowding, to avoid undue concentration of population, and to facilitate adequate provisions for transportation, water, sewage, schools, parks and other public resources. The Allen Land Development Code also promotes the character of the City by encouraging the most appropriate use of land throughout the City.
