Job Requirements and Desired Skills
Dispatchers must have the ability to handle more than one task at a time and operate efficiently in critical and stressful situations. They must remain calm and be able to communicate with callers, Police, Fire, EMS personnel, as well as with other Dispatchers in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- No experience required, however, one year customer service experience is preferred
- Must be able to type 30 wpm
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule which will include working nights, weekends and holidays
- Must possess a valid Class C Texas driver’s license or have the ability to obtain prior to employment
Desired Skills and Abilities
- Experience utilizing computer systems and performing data entry is desired
- Bilingual applicants (Spanish/English) are desired
- Perform multiple tasks in a high-stress environment
- Use independent judgment and make good decisions quickly
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, emergency and non-emergency situations
- Enter and access information through a computer
- Interpret maps and drawings
- Accurately communicate information received by radio and phone
- Work with the public in all types of situations (both emergency and non-emergency)
