Office of the Chief

chiefThe Office of the Chief of Police serves as the central administration for the operations of the police department. William S. Rushing was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Allen in 1997. Since coming to the City of Allen, Chief Rushing has increased staffing, brought about new and innovative crime prevention programs, and initiated an Internal Affairs Unit.

The responsibilities of the Office of the Chief of Police include, but are not limited to strategic planning, budget planning, day-to-day law enforcement agency operations, special guest appearances, department hiring/separations, payroll, and more.

With the continued growth of Allen, the Police Department has kept pace by focusing on expansion and changes to its command structure. The police department includes three deputy chiefs with oversight of specific division areas which consist of Support Services, Patrol Services, and Criminal Investigations. View the organizational chart to see the current command structure of the department. The annual report is another good source for information about department initiatives and priorities.

In addition to the overall management of the Police Department, the Office of the Chief of Police provides direct oversight for Internal Affairs, Community Relations, and the Chaplaincy Program.
