The Chaplaincy Program, also under the direction of the Office of the Chief of Police, was established to assist Police Officers and the citizens of Allen. The duties of a Police Chaplain include death notification, employee/victim counseling, and spiritual guidance for the department and the community. Chaplain Jim Palmer oversees the Unit and is assisted by six (6) associate ordained ministers.
Police Chaplains receive training in police regulations, policies, and procedures. Using this knowledge and their position in the community, Police Chaplains understand the role of a Police Officer in our society and help build bridges between the police and the citizens. Police Chaplains continue to gain knowledge and understanding about the Police Department and the community by having “ride-alongs” with patrol officers.
