According to WalletPop, AOL's consumer finance website, a study by NeighborhoodScout.com recognized Allen as the best neighborhood for the money in the Dallas metro area.
In the study, 20 metro areas throughout the United States, were ranked as the most desirable towns based on median home value and premium community qualities.
Andrew Schiller, a PhD geographer and the creator of NeighborhoodScout.com, said, "Best neighborhoods for the money are neighborhoods that combine many premium qualities, including excellent public schools, low crime rates, many large, owner-occupied single family homes, and neighbors with four-year college degrees, master's degrees, MDs or PhDs, but where median home prices are surprisingly low compared to other premium quality neighborhoods in the area."
(April 2010) - Allen City Council approved agreements, including an incentive package, designed to bring Cabela’s Wholesale, Inc., the world’s foremost outfitter in hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, to an ideal 14-acre site just south of The Village at Allen retail development along US 75 Central Expressway. (December 2009) - Allen Police Chief Bill Rushing recently announced that for the second year in a row Allen is ranked among the 10 safest cities in the United States. A City Crime Rankings study, published by CQ Press, a unit of Congressional Quarterly Inc., was based on the FBI’s 2008 statistics report. The report examined 393 communities with at least 75,000 people based on per-capita rates for homicide, robbery, rape, burglary, aggravated assault and motor vehicle theft.
Nationwide, Allen is ranked 9th overall (cities with a population of more than 75,000) and 7th in their population category (cities with a population between 75,000 and 99,999). In the CQ report, Allen was listed first in Texas, making it the safest city in Texas.
(November 2009) - The Allen Animal Shelter recently expanded pet adoption services by microchipping all animals adopted from the shelter. The adoption fee is now $90 which includes a voucher for sterilization and microchipping through the animal shelter.
Microchips are tiny transponders, about the size of a grain of rice, that use radio frequency waves to transmit information about your pet into a scanner. The scanner reads a unique registration number which can be referenced through a registry to contact a pet owner.

(July 2009) - Forbes.com released it's "In Depth: America's 25 Best Places to Move" and ranked Allen as number 19.
In order to locate America's best places to move, Forbes.com looked cities with populations over 25,000 comparing the number of people in each who were born out of state or abroad, who had moved there from a great distance over the last five years and who had moved based on their career. Forbes.com also compared population growth, family incomes, executives and professional jobs and home values.
