Piece:  “Blackland Prairie Song”Blackland Prairie Song

Artist:  Andrea Myklebust and Stanton Sears

Description:  The sculpture stands 24 ft, 5 inches tall and consists of a 10 ft Indiana limestone column, with imagery that depicts a bluebonnet flower and the stages of development of a cotton plant, a crop that was grown in this area many years ago.   Laser cut stainless steel with insets of stainless steel wire mesh along with cast bronze and cast glass elements, sits atop the sculpture column and depicts imagery of Allen’s historical connection to the railroad.  Added to that imagery is a cluster of wheels from both historic and contemporary vehicles with rising stars, indicative of Allen’s promising future.  To provide emphasis to the sculpture at night, an integrated multi colored LED lighting system illuminates the steel crown.  To promote interaction with sculpture among those who visit Allen City Hall, a seat wall of Lueders limestone as found elsewhere on the City Hall campus, and a bermed landscaping bed complete the project.
