Important Information about Applying for a City of Allen Job

  • The City of Allen only accepts applications for positions that are currently open. Full job announcements are posted at City Hall in the Human Resources Department and on the City's website.
  • An individual may apply for a job in person (using City's computers) during regular business hours or complete on online application offsite at any time. Applications may not be mailed or faxed.
  • City applications are required for all open positions. Resumes are accepted as supplement to, but not in lieu of, a City application.
  • An application is only active for the position for which you complete an application. If you are interested in other positions once you have applied, you will need to complete a new application. Previously submitted applications cannot be reused.
  • Applications and resumes are reviewed by the Human Resources Department to ensure that the applicant meets the minimum qualifications of the job. It is important to note that only applicants whose experience meets the minimum qualifications are considered. The hiring department then reviews the applications and schedules interviews.
  • Although all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are considered, those candidates whose background, experience, and education are most closely related to the position may be considered first. Not all applicants will necessarily be interviewed.
  • Filling a job vacancy can take from 30-90 days, depending on the type of position.
  • A job offer for the City of Allen is contingent upon successfully completing pre-employment screenings, which consist of a drug test, criminal background check, driving record check and a physical examination, if applicable. A final job offer is made only after these requirements have been met.
  • All applicants interviewed, but not selected will be notified of the status of the position in writing or by phone by the hiring Department. Applicants not interviewed will not be notified, but are welcome to call Human Resources to find out the status of posted positions.
