Communications / Dispatch Unit
Overview
Communications Unit
The Communications Unit is one of the most vital services for the police and fire departments. It provides 24-hour emergency and non-emergency service dispatching to the citizens of Allen.

Communications Technicians
Communications technicians are the critical link between citizens in need and responding personnel. They receive calls through "Enhanced 911" and non-emergency phone lines and provide reassurance and understanding to citizens during an emergency.

Hearing Impaired
Communications technicians are trained to assist hearing-impaired callers through the Telephone Device for the Deaf (TDD) phone line.

Warrant Checks
Communications technicians check for warrants and criminal histories. They also use the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) database to determine if property is stolen.

Becoming a Communication Technician
Communication technicians/dispatchers are non-sworn staff who provide services for both police and fire departments. Human Resources provides a list of job descriptions, essential functions and eligibility requirements of a communication technician. Check employment opportunities for open positions and to submit an application.
