School Resource Officer Unit
Overview
The SRO program commenced as a joint effort between the City of Allen and the Allen Independent School District (A.I.S.D.) to staff full-time police officers in Allen schools. The SRO is under the direct supervision of the police department. The School Resource Officer Unit (S.R.O.) creates a unity between the Allen Police Department and the AISD. Staffing the unit are a sergeant and officers who are assigned to the various schools throughout the city.

Primary Purpose
The primary purpose of the S.R.O. unit is to provide a safe and secure environment conducive to learning in the A.I.S.D. schools. To reduce crime and incidents in schools, officers establish rapport with the students, parents and staff. Furthermore, they patrol the schools and teach many educational programs.

  • Encourage cooperation between students and police
  • Deter criminal activity among our youth
  • Keep an open line of communication with fellow officers

SRO Roles and Responsibilities Regarding Criminal Activity
  • Investigate crimes that occur on campus
  • Conduct interviews with witnesses or possible witnesses
  • Complete required paperwork on crimes that occur on campus
  • Issue citations when necessary
  • Make arrests when appropriate
  • Teach programs that help kids say no to drugs
