Registration & Fees
Animal control officers are authorized to impound any animal running at large, except a cat. Officers can impound a cat following complaints of the animal causing a nuisance or hazard to the health or welfare of humans or other animals.

An animal impounded or brought to the shelter as a stray will be held for five days for the owner to reclaim, or for seven days if it has a current city registration tag. If the animal is not reclaimed, it may be put up for adoption.

Quarantine for Reported Bite
Any person aware of an animal bite or scratch to a human will report the incident to Animal Control within 24 hours of the incident. All dogs and cats that bite or scratch a human must be quarantined for ten days, regardless of whether they are vaccinated for rabies or not. The biting animal may be quarantined at various locations depending on the bite, including a veterinarian's office, the Allen Animal Shelter, or the animal's home.
