Volunteer With Us!
Be a VolunTeen!
The Allen Public Library welcomes the help of VolunTeens by offering a variety of volunteer opportunities. Due to the number of applicants, we cannot accept every teen who applies. Candidates will be considered based on prior experience, qualifications and compatibility with library needs. Those accepted will be notified by Friday, September 5.

Important dates to remember:
  • Friday, August 22 - Applications become available online
    (application link is at the bottom of this page)
  • Saturday, August 30 - Last day to apply
  • Saturday, September 6, 11 a.m. to noon – VolunTeen Orientation, required of all VolunTeens
VolunTeens can serve the Library in a number of ways.
  • Story Time Aides assist with story times on a set, weekly basis.
  • Children’s Department Aides work in the staff areas, prepping for programs and helping keep the Children’s Library orderly.
  • Special Event Aides work directly with the staff and patrons in a variety of programs like Lego Club, Crafternoon and Game Day.
  • Adult Services Aides work with the Adult Library staff.

In order to volunteer, you must meet the following requirements:
  • must be at least 13 years old as of September 1, 2014
  • must be enrolled in middle school, high school or homeschool program
  • must be no older than 18 years old
VolunTeen Expectations

  • Arrive on time and stay until the end of your shift
  • School dress code
  • Do not bring siblings or friends to your shift
  • Keep your phone and MP3 devices put away
  • You may bring water with a lid and a book for quiet times
  • Represent the Library by observing Library rules and procedures
  • Sign in and out for each shift
  • Check your email – it’s our best way to reach you
