Violations & Fines
Expired Vehicle Inspection or Expired Registration
If the violation is less than 60 days expired, you must present proof of correction within 20 working days from date of offense and the citation may be dismissed with a $20 dismissal fee.

A 20% penalty fee must be paid to the Department of Motor Vehicles at the time the registration is renewed. If this penalty is not paid, the Court cannot dismiss the citation. Proof of correction for receipt showing your vehicle passed the state inspection test must be presented to the Court.

If the vehicle inspection or registration was expired more than 60 days but less than six months, your citation cannot be dismissed. However, present proof of renewal to the Court within 20 working days from date of offense and the Judge may reduce the amount of the fine to Court costs only. Call the Court Clerk’s Office at 214.509.4380 to find out current Court cost amount.

Pending dismissal or reduction to court cost, the fine amounts are:
  • Expired/No Motor Vehicle Inspection Sticker: $159
  • Expired/No Motor Vehicle Registration: $129

Expired Driver’s License
Present proof of a renewed Driver's License within 20 working days from the date of the offense and the citation will be dismissed with a $20 dismissal fee. Proof of correction for an expired driver's license is the paper license, which indicates the date of renewal.

Pending dismissal, the fine amount is:
  • Expired Driver's License: $169

Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility (No Insurance)
If you were covered by an insurance policy at the time the citation was issued, you may present proof to have your citation dismissed. Proof of insurance includes the following:
  • Name, address and telephone number of the insurer
  • Insurance policy number
  • Policy's effective and expiration date
  • Name and address of each insured party
  • Policy limits or a statement that coverage complies with the minimum amounts of liability insurance required
  • Make and model of each vehicle covered by the policy

If you were operating a vehicle other than your own, you must provide proof of insurance for that vehicle. The court will call your agent and verify proof of insurance before the citation will be dismissed. If the proof of insurance is not valid, you will be notified by mail or receive a court date to appear before the Judge.

Pending dismissal, the fine amount is:
  • Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility (No insurance): $384
