Overview
On Tuesday, February 7, 2012, Brian E. Harvey was sworn in as the new Chief of Police for the City of Allen Police Department. Harvey has over 30 years of extensive law enforcement experience and is a retired Deputy Chief of Police with the Dallas Police Department.

City Manager Peter Vargas said, "With his demonstrated leadership
abilities along with his proven commitment to community policing and superior customer service, Chief Harvey is a natural fit for the City of Allen."

Responsibilities
The Office of the Chief of Police serves as the central administration for the operations of the police department. The responsibilities of this office include, but are not limited to strategic planning, budget planning, day-to-day law enforcement agency operations, special guest appearances, department hiring/separations, payroll, and more.

Command Structure
With the continued growth of Allen, the Police Department has kept pace by focusing on expansion and changes to its command structure. The police department includes three deputy chiefs with oversight of specific division areas which consist of Support Services, Patrol Services, and Criminal Investigations. The annual report is another good source for information about department initiatives and priorities.

In addition to the overall management of the Police Department, the Office of the Chief of Police provides direct oversight for Internal Affairs, Community Relations, and the Chaplaincy Program.
