City Elections
About
The City of Allen operates under a council-manager form of government. The Mayor and six Councilmembers are elected at-large. In 2001, Allen residents approved an amendment to the Allen City Charter that allowed for three-year staggered terms for the council.

Terms for the City Council Expire as Follows
  • Place No. 4, 6 - May 2013
  • Mayor and Place No. 2 - May 2014
  • Place No. 1, 3, 5 - May 2015

Council Qualifications
According to the City of Allen Charter Article II, Section 2.02, a City Council candidate must:
  • Be a qualified voter of the City of Allen;
  • Be a resident of the City of Allen for at least one year immediately preceding their election; and
  • Hold no other elected office or appointed public office or position of emolument, except as authorized by state law.
