Swim classLearn To Swim at Any Age
The City of Allen Learn to Swim program helps swimmers of all ages improve their comfort in the water and learn correct stroke techniques – all in a safe way! Instructors are American Red Cross certified and trained aides may assist classes. Download our welcome packet!!

Please check our schedule of classes as our offerings and times change from season to season.  Below is an outline of classes:

Parent / Child Aquatics
For parents and their infants ages 6 months to 4 years. Help your child become comfortable in and around the water and introduce them to basic skills water safety skills such as blowing bubbles, submerging, floating, kicking and gliding. This is a great class if you want to be in the water with your child and help prepare them for the Minnows classes.

Minnows (ages 3-5) and Sharks (ages 6-12)
Students are evaluated on the first day of class and then grouped with other students similar in skill and comfort level in the water. Instructors will work with students to master the full range and progression of skills outlined by the American Red Cross. We want our students to have fun and become safe swimmers!

Adapted Aquatics
Part of our Special Needs Adapted Program for children and adults with special needs or disabilities. Experienced and specially credentialed instructors will introduce children, parents, caretakers and adults of all ages to a safe aquatic environment, giving them the opportunity to improve their recreational swimming and water safety skills. Parents or caretakers are welcome to be in the water to assist. Adapted Aquatics punch cards: $60 Member/$76 Non-Member for 8 classes. A free assessment must be completed before signing up for an Adapted Aquatics punch card. Call 214.509.4770 for more information or to schedule a free assessment.

Adult Aquatics
For anyone age 13 years or older that wants to learn how to swim. Multiple instructors are prepared to help you in small groups focus on what you want to achieve, whether it's basic skills like submerges and floating, or more refinement on the six major strokes and their mechanics. Cost of registration includes a one-month swim pass so you can practice your skills between class sessions when it's convenient for you.

Master Swim
Swimming is a lifetime sport, a high calorie burner and a safe form of exercise that conditions and tones the entire body. These workouts are for adults who want to improve their stroke technique while building endurance, improving muscle strength, cardiovascular fitness and flexibility. Lanes will be divided by experience level (beginner/intermediate/advanced). Participants must be comfortable in deep water and able to swim one length of the pool. 

Competitive Stroke Clinic
Want to swim like a pro but need lots of practice first? Competitive Stroke Clinic is like being on a swim team without the swim meets! Students must meet prerequisites and demonstrate proficiency of the four major strokes as coaches will work with them on refinement, building endurance and reducing times. Practice is in the competition pool and there are three levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advance. For ages 8-15.

Diving for Beginners
With a participant to instructor ratio of 6-to-1, expect plenty of individualized attention as divers learn basic skills such as take-off, hurdle, jump, forward and back dives. Pre-requisite: Student must be able to demonstrate safe head first entry from poolside in water 12 feet deep, swim to surface and swim unassisted to wall or ladder.

Learn Lifesaving Skills
Our American Red Cross education and certification classes are offered year round. Some classes may have prerequisites that must be met in order to continue in the class.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
Learn how to ensure others are safe in, on and around the water and know how to respond in the event of an aquatic emergency. Minimum age 15.

GuardStart
For youth ages 11-14 that want to learn the skills needed to become a lifeguard when they're older. Get a head start with GuardStart! (Summers only.)

CPR / First Aid
Don't just be a bystander, learn CPR and First Aid and you can be the one to save a person's life.

Lifeguard Instructor / Water Safety Instructor
Learn how to teach lifesaving or swimming and water safety skills to others and help build a safer aquatic community for everyone. Minimum age 16.

Special Events
We host special events throughout the year that let families and kids get wet and have fun! Check out our Dive-in Movies, the annual Duck Derby and Kids' Triathlon or Dog Days at Ford Pool.

Aquatics
