3rd Annual Collin County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Appreciation Day

The public is invited to the 3rd Annual Collin County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Appreciation Day Service on Monday, January 20, 2020, the official Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. The service will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 601 S. Greenville Ave., Allen, Texas 75002.  

Chris Lawrence, WFAA News co-anchor, is Master of Ceremonies.

2020 co-chairs are: Senior Pastor Mary Beth Hardesty-Crouch, First United Methodist Church, Allen; Pastor Timothy Jones, Rockbridge Church, Allen; Dr. Wayne Stafford, Sr., Fellowship Christian Center Church, Plano.

The mission of the Appreciation Day Service is to honor Dr. King’s legacy and continue the values he represented of love, equality and justice. The Service is a collaboration of civic organizations, churches, community leaders and academic institutions. It is organized and managed by volunteers and funded through donations.

The program will include; musical selections performed by choirs from several area churches and MLK Day Community Choir, a dance presentation by Fellowship Christian Center Plano Ensemble. Proclamations have been issued from the cities of Allen, Fairview, McKinney, and Plano, and Collin County.  

Winners of the Collin County Student Art Contest will be recognized and their artwork will be on display. The 2020 Collin County MLK Drum Major Awards will also be recognized. The recipients are; Carson Doss and Joycie Turner. The Drum Major award was established by Dr. King to recognize individuals who have dedicated much of their lives to improving the human condition.
