4th Annual Collin County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Appreciation Day Service (VIRTUAL)

Join the service via Zoom.

The public is invited to join virtually for the 4th Annual Collin County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Appreciation Day Service. This year’s theme is “The 1963 Birmingham Campaign.” This year’s emcee is Dr. Cheryl Jackson, Founder of Minnie’s Food Pantry.

The one-hour service will be live streamed at noon. The link to the service will be available on the MLK Day Collin County Facebook page (@MLKDayCollinCounty) on the morning of Jan. 18. Service includes musical selections performed by choir members from area churches.

First Annual Carson M. Doss Legacy Scholarship Art Contest
Mr. Doss, founder of the MLK Appreciation Day Service, passed away in 2020 and his family established this scholarship in his memory. Two students who live in Collin County will each receive a $1,000 scholarship. Winners will be announced and recognized during the Service.

2021 Collin County MLK Drum Major Award
The Drum Major award was established by Dr. King to recognize individuals who have dedicated much of their lives to improving the human condition. Award recipients are Dr. E.T. Boon and Diana Dues.

  • Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. - A conversation with Cynthia Levinson, the author of We’ve Got A Job, a chronicle of The Birmingham Campaign and The Children’s March. Join via Zoom – Link will be provided on the MLK Day Collin County Facebook page (@MLKDayCollinCounty).
  • Colored Commentary, a podcast hosted by Markus Lloyd and Antwuan Malone, is a challenging conversation on race, Christianity and culture. Several episodes leading up to the event will focus on the work of Dr. King in the struggle social justice, equity, and equality—and how it continues today. Find it on Apple podcasts.
