Mayor Stephen Terrell thanked volunteers while kicking off “Live. Love. Allen.” week, March 23-29. The “Live. Love. Allen.” program matches willing volunteers with residents who face property code violations, yet are physically or financially unable to fix the problem themselves.
Allen launched the program in 2013, creating a formal referral process to quickly link homeowners to service organizations. Thirteen service organizations are now registered in the program, including the Allen Veterans of Foreign Wars, First United Methodist Church and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Allen city council members commended their efforts during the meeting on Tuesday, March 23.
Since its launch, “Live. Love. Allen.” has completed 45 projects with the help of 225 volunteers. In all, these groups have contributed 450+ hours of work to help their neighbors avoid potential fines.
