[ARCHIVED] NTMWD to Ease Watering Restrictions Effective May 1

North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) water supply reservoirs have reached sufficient levels to ease watering restrictions earlier than previously planned.

Beginning May 1, Allen utility customers may water their lawns up to twice a week on designated watering days. Designated watering days are posted on the City’s watering schedule map. Customers may not use irrigation/sprinkler systems between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. or when it is raining.

Despite eased restrictions, twice per week watering may not be necessary—especially based on typical May rainfall. Customers are advised to use sprinklers/irrigation systems on their designated watering day, adding a second day only if needed.

Though the drought has not officially ended, runoff from recent rains has helped increase the levels of both Lavon Lake and Chapman Lake. This allows NTMWD to transition to a new Water Conservation plan instead of operating under drought contingency stages of the 2008 plan. The new plan includes three drought contingency stages instead of four, in order to align our water district with practices followed by other regional water suppliers. Basic water conservation practices will always be in place.
