[ARCHIVED] Classes on Rain Barrels, Fall Gardening Enrolling Now

Before you plant your fall garden, take advantage of informative classes facilitated by City of Allen Water Conservation.

On Sep. 9, Patrick Dickinson from Texas A&M Agrilife will teach participants how to construct their own 55-gallon rain barrels. The class teach residents learn the basics of rainwater harvesting, including how to collect and store rainwater at home. The $50 fee covers all supplies for constructing your own rain barrel. Register now.

If you're planning a fall vegetable garden, the Sep. 23 class is the perfect primer. Participants will learn proper soil preparation, garden design, disease and insect identification, and the proper time to germinate vegetable seeds and when to transplant vegetables into your garden for the season. All classes are held from 6-8 p.m. at the Parks & Recreation Community Room (301 Century Parkway). Registration is required.
