Time is running out to join the upcoming Citizens Police Academy, rape aggression defense course and CERT program.
Allen Police Department's next rape aggression defense (RAD) course begins on Tuesday, Sep. 8. The four-week course meets from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Allen Heights Baptist Church gymnasium (1309 E. The next Citizens Police Academy course begins Thursday, Sep. 10. The 12-week course gives Allen residents an inside look at police department operations. Participants will meet officers from various units, including K-9, SWAT, patrol, criminal investigations and crime scene. Classes meet Thursday evenings, 6-9 p.m., at the Allen Police Training Facility (802 South Greenville Avenue). Enrollment is limited to the first 30 applicants. Download application now.
Allen's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is also accepting applications for Basic CERT class. The eight-week course begins Sep. 10. The course prepares participants to deliver life-saving skills in a major disaster. Members are prepared to help their neighborhoods or workplaces following a catastrophic event that requires a large-scale response. Training includes fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. The class will meet Thursday nights from 7-9:30 p.m. The final class will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 8 a.m. to noon.
