[ARCHIVED] Fall Fun with the City of Allen

From costumed skate nights to spooky page-turners, you’ll find plenty of ways to celebrate autumn.

Don’t banish gingerbread to December; tweens and teens can create their own spooky gingerbread houses at Allen Public Library on Monday, Oct. 19. Love creepy-crawly literature? Kids ages 7-12 can test their R.L. Stein knowledge during the library’s Goosebumps Party on Friday, Oc. 23.

If you’re already missing summer pool days, grab a swimsuit and towel and head to Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium for a dive-in movie on Saturday, Oct. 24. Swim or float in the pool while Disney’s “Hocus Pocus” plays in the background. Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for kids ages 3-17.

Interested in the afterlife? Join Allen Public Library on Oct. 29 for Death Lore: Texas Rituals, Superstitions and Legends of the Hereafter. Author Dr. Kenneth Untiedt will explain local traditions and customs in a presentation that is both meaningful and humorous.

October 31 isn’t just Halloween; it’s also Arbor Day. You can pick up a free tree sampling at Evans Elementary from 9 a.m. to noon. Make sure the kids dress up for the costume contest, because winners will receive an extra tree.

The Halloween fun continues at Allen Community Ice Rink on Oct. 31. Wear a costume and receive free skate rental for the two-hour Halloween skate, beginning at 11:45 a.m.

Want to include Fido and Fluffy in the Halloween fun? Bring your family and four-legged friends to Allen Public Library’s first pet costume contest and festival on Oct. 31. Dress your pet in a costume and compete for the Best Costume and Owner/Pet Lookalike. To enter, bring a donation of pet food or toys for the Allen Animal Shelter.
