City council members approved the purchase of a replacement fire truck during the council meeting on Oct. 12. The new truck offers a longer ladder and safer platform for roof work and ventilation.
The engine, which will replace Truck #2, will provide service for the entire city. With a 100-foot ladder, the truck will offer the same reach as the city’s Truck #5. The longer ladder will help firefighters access homes that are set back farther from the street; it will also offer greater access to new or proposed Allen buildings with higher elevations.
The truck will cost $952,000 and was approved in the city’s 2015-2016 budget. A prepayment discount will save the city more than $11,000. Construction of the truck is expected to take eleven months.
