Four members of the Allen Lifetime Fitness staff were honored during the Oct. 27 council meeting for saving the life of a gym member.
The man passed out following a workout. When staff members found him, he had stopped breathing and had no pulse.
“He was effectively dead,” said Assistant Fire Chief Jon Boyd.
Aaron Frisvold, A.C. Clementino, Mitchell Henderson and Jim Hooks rushed to the man’s side and began performing CPR. They also got the gym’s automatic external defibrillator (AED) and managed to regulate his heartbeat using the device’s electric shock.
“As I told them, it always makes our job a lot easier if they go ahead and save ‘em before we get there,” joked Assistant Chief Boyd.
After waking up, the gentleman felt so much better that EMTs actually had to convince him to go to the hospital.
Frisvold, Clementino, Henderson and Hooks received Allen’s Shining Star Award. The award is presented to community members who perform an outstanding deed or go beyond the call of duty.
