The plan to add new apartments near the southwest corner of McDermott Drive and Watters Road received the green light from city council members during the Jan. 12 meeting. Vera Watters Creek will occupy six acres of property, located along Watters Road across from Home Depot.
The property had previously been zoned for a shopping center, but received little interest due to its minimal street visibility. Council members voted unanimously to change the zoning to a multi-family residential district.
The apartments will offer 266 units—including one, two and three bedroom layouts—all located within a single structure. The building features interior courtyards and an integrated parking garage with 465 spaces.
Developers chose to reduce the building height and add enhanced landscaping based on staff recommendations and community input. To minimize traffic impact along Watters or McDermott, the developer will also add new “deceleration lanes” leading into the complex.
