Crews have demolished the existing Ford Pool to make way for an updated facility. New photos from the construction site show a backhoe tearing through concrete and dirt.
Due to the large amount of sand around the existing pool, contractors are testing compaction and awaiting recommendations from the architect before moving forward with form layout and construction.
The outdoor community pool first opened in 1986. The redesigned pool will feature competitive lap lanes, a zero-depth entry and interactive water play feature that includes buckets similar to the ones installed at Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium.
Though the pool is expected to open this summer, a contingency plan is being created for the City of Allen Swim Team (COAST) in case of delays.
