Due to a combination of excessive fall rain, ground water and soil testing, renovation of the 30-year old Ford Pool is now estimated to be completed August 2016.
Demolition of the old pool began in December at which point the extent of the ground water and soil concerns were identified. Several advances in pool construction have been developed since the original pool was built in 1986. In order to build a structurally sound and durable facility, solutions are being implemented to prevent future issues for the life of the new pool. These solutions require a longer construction timeline.
Even though Ford Pool will be under construction over the summer, swim lessons are available through Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium. Check out City of Allen Aquatics for more information. Allen Parks and Recreation has a lot of fun for families to do over the summer (Summer Sounds, Family Nights, etc.). The Summer 2016 STUFF Activity Guide is now available.
Allen City Council approved the $3.6 million project in November after the Allen Community Development Corporation approved funding. The updated pool design will include incorporated lap lanes for competitive swimming through C.O.A.S.T. (City of Allen Swim Team), an aquatic play unit, zero depth entry and water play features.
