The Texas Municipal Library Directors Association has recognized Allen Public Library for its outstanding services, publicity and cultural programming. The library is among an elite group of Texas libraries which received the 2015 Achievement of Library Excellence award. Only 41 of the 556 public libraries in Texas were selected for this honor.
To qualify, libraries were required to document their efforts to provide new or enhanced services, hold special classes and outreach events, provide literacy support for all ages, contribute cultural and educational programming, establish staff training opportunities, and collaborate with community organizations or other city departments.
The Texas Municipal Library Directors Association is an affiliate of the Texas Municipal League. The organization began in 1966 to promote the public library profession, to improve the methods of providing library service and to maintain high standards of professional ethics.
