[ARCHIVED] New Streets, Road Improvements Included in May 7 Bond Package

Allen will invest $23.9 million in new streets and road improvements if voters approve bond funding in the May 7 election.

The biggest portion of that funding would pay for the extension of Ridgeview Drive from Cottonwood Creek to US 75. The project’s $10 million budget would include the purchase of land, along with design and construction of the roadway and bridge spanning Cottonwood Creek.

Another $4 million would replace pavement throughout the city, with a special focus on the Central Business District. The city would replace failing locations based on a yearly pavement assessment.

Traffic and intersection improvements totaling $2.39 million would improve traffic flow and reduce time spent waiting at red lights. Allen would also dedicate $2.5 million to arterial roadway partnerships, which would leverage county or state funds to improve Allen’s largest roadways. An additional $1.5 million would be spent on median landscaping, lighting and irrigation to select streets.

The street projects will be listed as Proposition 4 on the May 7 ballot. Early voting runs April 25 through May 3. The bond election also includes separate propositions for public safety, parks and recreation, public art, and a library expansion.
