From a delicious documentary to a visit from a Texas food expert, come savor the state’s culinary history at these ALLen Reads events.
On Tuesday, March 22, join Allen Public Library for a fascinating documentary on the culinary odyssey of Tex Mex food. The film follows the Cuellar family and their famed El Chico restaurants on a journey that explores state treasures such as tamales, guacamole, salsa and enchiladas. Members of the Cuellar family will be on hand to share stories and answer questions from the audience at this free event, from 7:30-9:00 p.m. at the Allen Public Library Civic Auditorium (300 N. Allen Drive).
The author of this year’s ALLen Reads book selection will also visit Allen Public Library this spring. Robb Walsh, author of "Texas Eats: the New Lone Star Heritage Cookbook," will speak about the state’s social history, culture and geographical regions as they relate to Texas cuisine during a community event on Saturday, April 9. Join the discussion and ask your Texas food questions from 7:30-9:00 p.m. at the library’s Civic Auditorium. A book signing will follow. This event is free.
