Allen City Secretary Shelley George was presented with the Community Builder Award by members of the Allen Mason Lodge on Wednesday, April 13.
The award was designed by the Grand Texas Lodge to recognize outstanding non-Masons who have distinguished themselves through service to the community, the government, their house of worship or to humanity. Though sometimes given to the obvious leaders of the community, the Masons also consider individuals who, “year in and year out, quietly and without fanfare, show their devotion to their community and its people without the expectation of awards or honors.”
George joined the City of Allen in 1997 and became City Secretary in 2003. She is responsible for city elections and records management and serves as the administrative aide to Allen City Council. She also coordinates appointments to city boards and commissions and serves as Allen’s public information officer in responding to open records request.
George served on the board of directors for the Texas Municipal Clerks Association from 2013 to 2015, was chair of the TCMA Certification Committee from 2011 to 2015, and is a member of several other professional organizations for clerks and records managers. She is a graduate of Lamar University.
George lives in Allen with her husband Chad and three children, Emily, Timothy and Bradley.
