[ARCHIVED] Plans for New Convention Center Get Even Bigger

Developers are expanding the footprint of Allen’s first four-star hotel and convention center. Allen city council members agreed to contribute economic incentives to build 10,000 additional square feet at the Convention Center at Watters Creek. This allows for a main convention room totaling 40,000 square feet and 18,000 square feet of meeting breakout space, along with a 12,000 square foot ballroom.

While designing the facility, it was determined the additional breakout space would make the facility significantly more desirable to convention planners. Karen Cromwell, Director of the Allen Convention and Visitors Bureau, supported this need based on the convention inquiries her office receives.

The total cost to expand the convention space is approximately $3 million. Allen city council members agreed to contribute $1 million in incentives. The Allen Community Development Corporation and Allen Economic Development Corporation will each contribute an additional $1 million.

The hotel brand and groundbreaking date are expected to be announced this summer.
