Sections of Cottonwood Creek Hike & Bike Trail are being replaced as part of the Allen Historic Water Station improvements project.
The section of trail directly beneath Exchange Parkway and a section beside Old Stone Dam are currently closed as they are being replaced, but the sections will reopen upon completion, which is expected in July.
“We are working on the Exchange Parkway trail section as expeditiously as possible as this location does not allow for an alternate route to be provided,” said Matt McMcomb, Landscape Architect for the City of Allen.
The trail section beneath Exchange Parkway involves complete replacement of the trail and adjacent shoulders to mitigate erosion issues that have led to trail failures. Also, the alignment is being revised to accommodate maintenance vehicles, which will allow access to the trail network located north of Exchange Parkway.
An alternate route has been provided for the closed trail section near Old Stone Dam, which is being realigned to accommodate the new pedestrian bridge that is currently being installed.
