[ARCHIVED] Allen K-9 Enjoying Retirement

One of Allen Police Department’s K-9 officers has finally hung up his collar.

Barz, a German shepherd, retired on May 27 after five years on the force. His human colleagues treated him to a retirement party complete with chew toys and a canine-friendly cupcake.

Barz wil enjoy his retirement in the company of a familiar face. His handler, Officer Laura Gilmore, will care for Barz at her home.

APD’s K-9 Unit is specifically equipped to detect illegal narcotics, search buildings and open areas, apprehend criminals and locate missing children. Established in 1997, it now boasts a dedicated training facility to meet the high standards of Allen Police.
