Ford Pool will feature Allen’s latest public art installation when it reopens in 2017.
City council members approved a plan to install custom mosaic columns at the pool’s main entrance. The mosaics, designed by artist Joshua Winer of Waltham, Mass., will feature silhouettes of swimmers floating, diving and playing in the water. View the artist's renderings.
The design, fabrication and installation of the tiles will cost $50,000. The money will come from bond funding designated for public art projects, which was approved by voters in 2007.
Council members also approved the city’s next Public Art Master Plan during the May 24 meeting. The plan encourages new works that will contribute to Allen’s identity as a unique and welcoming community, activate community gathering spaces and bring character and creativity to everyday places. Voters approved $1.77 million for future public art project during the May 7 bond election.
