[ARCHIVED] Is Your Dog Calendar Worthy?

Take a pledge to pick up after your pet and you'll qualify to enter your dog's photo in the 2017 Doo the Right Thing calendar contest.

Bacteria and parasites in dog waste present a health risk to people and pets. Not only is pet waste messy and unsightly, it also affects our water quality by causing algae growth that harms fish and other aquatic life.

Make sure you always carry a couple of bags to pick up after your pet on walks. Plastic bread bags, plastic newspaper sleeves and plastic produce bags work well. Droppings in your yard should be picked up once per week. Bagged waste can be tossed in the trash; if it's not bagged, you can flush it down the toilet.

If you've taken the pledge, you can enter your pet's photo in the Doo the Right Thing annual photo contest. Entries must be submitted by June 30.

Take the pledge and enter now.
