[ARCHIVED] New Course, New Name for the City of Allen's Municipal Golf Course

To adjust to today's player and pace and to breathe new life into the course, the golf course formerly known as Chase Oaks has been getting a complete makeover and now has a new name, too: The Courses at Watters Creek. The City of Allen's municipal golf course located immediately south of the Watters Creek development closed for renovation October 1, 2011, and is set to reopen in November 2012 under its new name.

The course overhaul is being led by PGA Tour professional D.A. Weibring and acclaimed golf course architect Steve Wolfard. With a resume that includes the renovation and design of two PGA courses as well as the creation of many of the best resort, daily-fee, public and private courses worldwide, Weibring-Wolfard has the experience and the vision to reinvigorate The Courses at Watters Creek, inspiring new players and capturing the heart of golfers in North Texas. Main goals of the project include increasing speed of play and safety, replacing aging infrastructure and creating user friendly courses designed to appeal to experienced golfers as well as men, women and children just starting out.

As the name indicates, The Courses at Watters Creek is not just one course. The venue will include multiple courses appealing to a broad spectrum of golf abilities. The 18 hole course, significantly upgraded aesthetically with increased playability will be ready for the grand reopening November 2012. By opening or shortly thereafter, a new six hole short course will debut, laid out for regular players to perfect their short games and for new players to ease into the game of golf with a nonthreatening, enjoyable experience. Then summer of 2013, a nine hole course will follow. Redesigned to be more accessible to all players, these nine holes will especially attract those looking for a fun and time sensitive golf experience.

About The Courses at Watters Creek
Located at 7201 Chase Oaks Boulevard on the Plano / Allen border adjacent to Central Expressway, formerly known as Chase Oaks, the Blackjack Course's 18 championship holes opened in 1986 giving area residents a convenient 27 hole golf course. The facility experienced several ownership changes before being purchased by the City of Allen in 2004. In October 2011 the City of Allen closed the course for renovations, enlisting the Weibring-Wolfward firm to reimagine and reinvigorate the courses. With a new name, The Courses at Watters Creek, will debut in November 2012.
